While out visiting the top three “Go-to” local CT consignment shops , we visited Play it Again Sports, the #2 consignment shop in CT based on voting by our Facebook fans. Truly, when you walk in the door you’re immediately washed over by a wave of childhood memories that briefly resurrect your dreams of becoming a professional athlete playing for your favorite team.
While 90% of the athletic items come from Southington and the surrounding communities, their clientele reaches far beyond their hometown People from all over CT and even visitors on vacations from other states frequently stop by due it its excellent reputation and close and convenient proximity to Interstate 84. Not all items are consigned however- there is a perfect balance between old and new items in this store and there is truly something for every sports fan who stops in.
No matter where you look, (wall, floor, or even the ceiling) your eyes are met with high quality sporting equipment at a fraction of the price you’d normally expect to pay at a big box sporting good store. This is a store that doesn’t discriminate when it comes to athletics. Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, golf, hockey, softball, and even “extreme” sports like skateboarding are all well represented and respected by the owners of this CT sports consignment shop. It doesn’t stop with competitive sports either – there is a wide range of exercise and fitness equipment on sale as well for the person who wants to get in shape within the privacy and comfort of their own home.
Play it Again likes to focus on the seasons – whatever sport is currently in season will have an especially strong representation within the shop. It’s a great place to stop for any scholastic athlete who wants to pick up that perfect piece of equipment to make the coming season their best yet.
You’d likely assume that the owner of such a shop has been into sports for their whole life, but owner Janet Zygmount spent 18 years as a computer programmer and stay-at-home mom until making a new beginning with Play it Again in 2006. In those 6 years, she’s become a true expert in all things sports-related and has a passion for her job and store that are truly genuine and unmistakable. Together with her husband John, she runs and owns this Southington, CT sporting goods shop year round and keeps the CT sports community “green” through buying and reselling previously used (yet in great condition) items.
